ABSTRACT

We investigated the influence of post-collection changes and snow gauge undercatch on the stable isotopic compositions of winter precipitation. Post-collection changes by evaporation or sublimation can be severe, and may be minimized, but not eliminated, by emptying collection gauges immediately after snowfall. Snow gauge undercatch caused two main effects: a small direct effect caused by preferential separation of snow particles during snowfall, and a much larger effect on the measured stable isotopic compositions of average annual precipitation as a result of under representation of winter precipitation. Despite these effects, however, we found little change to calculated local meteoric water lines (LMWL) for Saskatoon, SK, Canada. A comprehensive 27-year LMWL for Saskatoon which incorporates these effects can be described by δ2H?=?7.69?±?0.096?×?δ18O?–?2.22?±?1.72 (r2?=?0.97, n?=?208).  相似文献

The potential merit of laser-induced breakdown spectroscopy (LIBS) has been demonstrated for detection and quantification of trace pollutants trapped in snow/ice samples. In this technique, a high-power pulsed laser beam from Nd:YAG Laser (Model no. Surelite III-10, Continuum, Santa Clara, CA, USA) is focused on the surface of the target to generate plasma. The characteristic emissions from laser-generated plasma are collected and recorded by a fiber-coupled LIBS 2000+ (Ocean Optics, Santa Clara, CA, USA) spectrometer. The fingerprint of the constituents present in the sample is obtained by analyzing the spectral lines by using OOI LIBS software. Reliable detection of several elements like Zn, Al, Mg, Fe, Ca, C, N, H, and O in snow/ice samples collected from different locations (elevation) of Manali and several snow samples collected from the Greater Himalayan region (from a cold lab in Manali, India) in different months has been demonstrated. The calibration curve approach has been adopted for the quantitative analysis of these elements like Zn, Al, Fe, and Mg. Our results clearly demonstrate that the level of contamination is higher in those samples that were collected in the month of January in comparison to those collected in February and March.  相似文献

基于空气、冰、雪与水物理特性的差异,设计了适应高寒地区内陆河道冰雪情定点自动检测的传感器和数据采集系统设备.该系统被安装在黑龙江省漠河县北极村水位站黑龙江河道断面,进行了3个半月的冰雪情定点连续监测,获取了系统的黑龙江河道内部冰水情以与积雪深度现场数据.采集数据完整地反映了黑龙江河道冬季冰层和雪层生消变化过程,为分析高寒地区冬季冰雪情变化规律以及春季凌汛预警提供了科学的预测数据,并探索出了一种适合野外恶劣环境下工程应用的冰雪情检测方法和系统设备.  相似文献

为满足半埋目标测量和检测的需要,应用指数型分布粗糙面模型和Monte Carlo方法模拟雪层、土壤表面,运用时域有限差分方法研究雪层覆盖的土壤表面与半埋矩形截面柱复合模型的宽带电磁散射,得出宽带复合散射系数的频率响应曲线,计算宽带复合散射系数随雪层表面、土壤表面高度起伏均方根、相关长度,雪层类型、雪层厚度,土壤层含水量,矩形截面柱几何参数、倾角、埋藏深度,电磁波入射角等参数的变化. 结果表明,雪层表面高度起伏均方根、相关长度对宽带复合散射系数影响较小,其它参数对宽带复合散射系数均有显著影响且较为复杂.  相似文献

积雪直接影响地表能量平衡和气候变化,与人类生产、生活息息相关,运用热红外偏振技术对新雪的发射光谱特性进行研究,可为热红外遥感监测雪的热辐射偏振特性定量研究提供基础,对加深对全球变暖理解及制定相应对策等具有重要意义。研究结果表明:波段对新雪热红外偏振特性影响很大,其偏振辐亮度(L)表现为:LCH1>LCH3>LCH4>LCH2,偏振亮温(T)表现为:TCH4>TCH1>TCH2>TCH3,在探测角50°偏振角90°处出现最大值而在探测角30°偏振角75°处存在最小值,利用CH3偏振亮温数据分析新雪热辐射偏振特性效果更优。探测角对新雪的偏振亮温影响极其显著,表现为:T10203005040,偏振度(P)表现为:P0>P30>P40>P20>P10>P50。偏振角对新雪亮温影响呈线性关系,在0~135°范围,每单位偏振角偏振亮温增加约0.003 ℃,这为新雪偏振亮温预测提供可能,在研究探测角对新雪偏振亮温影响时可忽略波段造成的差异。相对方位角对新雪的热辐射偏振特性影响不显著,这主要是由物质表面粗糙程度与组织结构差异导致,利用热红外偏振度对新雪的理化特性监测具有重要作用。  相似文献

The purpose of this paper is to estimate the scattering phase function of snow from angularly resolved measurements of light intensity in the plane of incidence. A solver is implemented that solves the scattering function for a semi-infinite geometry based on the radiative transfer equation (RTE). Two types of phase functions are considered. The first type is the general phase function based on a low-order series expansion of Legendre polynomials and the other type is the Henyey–Greenstein (HG) phase function. The measurements were performed at a wavelength of 1310 nm and six different snow samples were analysed. It was found that a first order expansion provides sufficient approximation to the measurements. The fit from the first order phase function outperforms that of the HG phase function in terms of accuracy, ease of implementation and computation time. Furthermore, a correlation between the magnitude of the first order component and the age of the snow was found. We believe that these findings may complement present non-contact detection techniques used to determine snow properties.  相似文献

Along a 5986 km route on Antarctic ice sheet from west to east, 106 snow pits with a depth ranging from 1.0—2.0 m have been dug by the first author of this paper, the Chinese member of the "1990 International Trans-Antarctic Expedition". The basic physical characteristics of the surface layer of the ice sheet on a large scale are obtained through the observations of snow profiles at these snow pits. The sastrugi shapes and major axis azimuths have also been observed or measured on the way. Analysis for these observation data shows that in West Antarctica the meltwater infiltration-congelation is obvious and the annual precipitation is larger than that in East Antarctica, which implies that climate in West Antarctica is warmer, more humid and influenced more greatly by the South Ocean than that in East Antarctica. Radiation ice-glazes frequently found in snow profiles indicate that even in East Antarctica under very low temperatures, surface "melting" occurs in summer due to the long-time solar radiatio  相似文献

The problem of contamination during the collection of samples of environmental interest to detect trace metal is discussed. Attention is focused on the leaching of metals from sampling devices used to collect surface and deep seawater. A procedure to test metal release is applied to emphasize the importance of conditioning samplers before use. The procedure for checking the contamination extent and decontamination of firn and ice cores to detect ultratrace elements (particularly Cd and Pb) is presented and applied to some firn cores collected in Antarctica during the 1990–1991 Italian expedition.  相似文献
